Learning Area Requirements

To effectively teach and learn Grade 7 English, the following resources and conditions are needed:

  • The approved Grade 7 English textbook (aligned with CBC/KICD).

  • Supplementary reading materials: short stories, poems, comprehension passages.

  • Audio/visual aids for listening and speaking (recordings, videos, charts).

  • Writing materials: exercise books, pens, chalkboard/whiteboard.

  • Access to ICT tools (computer, projector, internet, where available).

  • A supportive learning environment that encourages speaking, reading, and creativity.

Learning Area Description

This English course develops learners’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, grammar, and writing with practical, theme-based content. Term 3 focuses on:

  • Listening & Speaking → expressing views and opinions, speech presentation, dialogues, oral reports.

  • Reading → intensive and extensive reading, pronunciation, intonation, comprehension of literary and non-literary texts.

  • Grammar in Use → phrasal verbs, tenses, reported speech, active and passive voice.

  • Writing → dialogues, paragraph writing, guided composition, editing work.

The course integrates critical thinking, creativity, cultural awareness, and effective communication in line with CBC competencies.

Learning Area Outcomes

By the end of Grade 7 Term 3 English, learners should be able to:

  • Listening & Speaking: Express opinions confidently, present speeches, engage in dialogues, and give oral reports.

  • Reading: Read with fluency and understanding, identify main ideas and supporting details, and interpret literary texts.

  • Grammar in Use: Apply correct grammar in speech and writing (phrasal verbs, tenses, reported speech, voice).

  • Writing: Write coherent dialogues, paragraphs, and compositions, and edit their work for clarity and accuracy.

  • General Competence: Demonstrate improved communication, creativity, collaboration, and cultural appreciation.
